Founded in the summer of 1996, Coastal Encounters Nature Center is a private, non-profit educational center dedicated to promoting appreciation and conservation of Southeast Georgia's coastal ecosystem.

Objectives

Enhance understanding, appreciation and respect for all living things.
Enable participants to discover the ecological concepts hidden in nature through guided, hands-on activities.
Provide an important link in the chain of expansive education.
Increase understancing on how humans fit into nature, so that knowledge develops into responsibility and environmentally friendly actions.

The center is located at the former Coast Guard station on East Beach, Saint Simons Island. Built in 1937 and currently under the care of the Coastal Landmark Preservation Society, the building is one of the most stunning and historically cherished structures in the area.
